Atlanta Botanical Garden
By Grace Armstrong | July 23, 2025
Set in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Botanical Garden offers thirty acres of seasonal beauty, rare plant life, immersive art installations, and top-tier culinary experiences. More than a public garden, this vibrant urban oasis pulses with creativity, color, and natural wonder. Whether you’re a local or a traveler with a passion for horticulture and design, the garden invites you to step into an experience that evolves with every visit.
A Garden That Grows with the City
Located at 1345 Piedmont Avenue, the Atlanta Botanical Garden shares its border with Piedmont Park and feels like a natural extension of Atlanta’s creative spirit. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the garden becomes a luminous sanctuary in the evenings, with carefully curated lighting that amplifies the magic of its displays. The setting is family-friendly, group-friendly, and fully accessible, creating a welcoming environment for all ages.
Seasonal Exhibitions and Living Installations
One of the defining features of the Atlanta Botanical Garden is its calendar of dynamic exhibitions. In 2025, visitors can experience Alice’s Wonderland, the final chapter of the garden’s celebrated mosaiculture series. These larger-than-life living sculptures depict characters from Lewis Carroll’s stories using thousands of intricately placed plants. A perfect blend of horticulture and imagination, Alice’s Wonderland will be on display through September 14.
In tandem with that, Enchanted Trees by Poetic Kinetics is making its world premiere. This otherworldly display features towering kinetic sculptures adorned with translucent acrylic leaves. Sunlight filters through these leaves during the day, casting colored patterns on the garden paths, while the structures glow in the evening, transforming the landscape into a surreal canopy.
Adding to the allure, the Cocktails in Wonderland series runs every Thursday from May through September. Guests can explore the garden with a cocktail in hand, enjoy live entertainment, and bask in the whimsical ambiance of these seasonal exhibits. For those who crave more celebration, the Summer Party on June 21 honors the solstice with a radiant, energetic evening of music and community.
Signature Collections and Landmark Attractions
Every section of the Atlanta Botanical Garden feels thoughtfully designed to spotlight specific botanical collections. Visitors can wander through meticulously curated zones including:
- The Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory, home to rare tropical and desert flora from around the world.
- The Fuqua Orchid Center, where guests will find two specialized environments: the Tropical Orchid House and the High Elevation Orchid House, showcasing species in full bloom year-round.
- The Children’s Garden, a colorful, interactive area built with a health and wellness theme. This space provides an educational and hands-on experience for young explorers.
The garden’s mission to conserve biodiversity shines through in its living collections and partnerships. The Southeastern Center for Conservation is headquartered on site, leading efforts in plant genetics, evolutionary biology, and demographic research.
A Culinary Destination in Bloom
Elevating the guest experience, the Atlanta Botanical Garden recently unveiled a stunning new restaurant created in partnership with celebrated chef Linton Hopkins and executive chef Jason Paolini. Designed by Perkins + Will, the two-level glass and stone structure offers sweeping views of the Anne Cox Chambers Southern Seasons Garden and the city skyline from its rooftop terrace.
With over 3,000 square feet of dining space, the restaurant accommodates approximately 250 guests and includes two distinct concepts:
- Full-Service Dining, featuring a menu inspired by seasonal produce and Southern culinary traditions
- The Quick Café, catering to visitors on the go with fresh sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts
Dining at the restaurant requires garden admission. While walk-ins are welcome, reservations are encouraged due to high demand, especially on weekends and event nights.
Rates and Accessibility
Admission is reasonably priced for a venue of this scale and significance:
- Adults: $26.95
- Children (3–12): $23.95
- Children under 3: Free
- Garden members: Free
Every visitor receives access to self-guided tour materials, well-maintained facilities, and optional classes and lectures hosted by horticulture experts. The garden also features public restrooms, gift shops, rental spaces for private events, and all-around thoughtful design for comfort and exploration.
An Urban Oasis in Constant Bloom
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is committed to growth, not only in the literal sense of plant life but through its bold expansions. A current project will transform eight acres along Piedmont Avenue and the Beltline’s northeast corridor into a new chapter of botanical engagement. This transformation reflects a citywide vision of walkability, creativity, and green space integration.
Season after season, the garden renews itself. Some visitors come to explore art in living form, others to stroll among rare orchids or find a quiet moment beneath a canopy of trees. And for many, it’s a place where culinary discovery, scientific learning, and personal inspiration meet.
No two visits feel the same. And with so many layers to experience—from the grand design of its exhibitions to the intimate charm of its gardens and the contemporary elegance of its restaurant—the Atlanta Botanical Garden continues to cultivate awe year after year.
